OSU-IT

OSU-IT in Okmulgee is having a workshop over scholarships and financial aid on Saturday, November 10th, from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. at McAlester High School.  This is a great opportunity to learn how to get money for school.

College Application

Hopefully all seniors have taken the ACT.  If you have not taken it, you need to take it by October and no later than December in order to meet deadlines for scholarships in the spring.  If you haven't, please see Mrs. Costner.  Remember you can take residuals at the college you are planning to attend, but they are only good for that college. 

You need to start filling out applications for the colleges you are planning to attend.  I would fill out no less than 2 applications.  Always have a back-up plan.  I will have applications in my office after September 1st or you can obtain them online.  If you need help, let me know.  Applications are due at different times at different colleges.  OU, OSU, private colleges and universities have earlier deadlines than some of the regional colleges (ECU, SOSU, etc...) and junior colleges (SSC, MSC, etc...).  It is your responsibility to find out when those deadlines are.  Do not wait until the last minute.

Scholarships are posted on this website.  Check them out.  Scholarships are given by each college--make sure you meet the deadline.  Keep taking the ACT, they will update your scores at each college and if your score gets higher, then you will receive the bigger scholarship.

ACT

Below is a list of the test dates for the ACT.  You can either apply online at www.act.org or by paper application.  They prefer online and I have very few paper packets.  Remember if you are a junior or a senior, you can receive 2 fee waivers (total) if you are on free and reduced lunches.  If you are a Chickasaw student, you can request one from them.  If you are in Talent Search or Upward Bound, you can also request waivers.  Cost is 35.00.

SENIORS:  If you are planning to attend a post-secondary institution, you need to take the October test and the December test. Deadlines for scholarships begin in January.

Students may also take the residual ACT at the school they plan to attend.  Residuals are only good for the college at which you take the test. You will just need to check with that school and see when they give it.  Fee waivers do not apply.  New rule is you can only take a residual one time only.  This is for public institutions.

If you are a 9th - 11th grader and have not taken the ACT yet, you need to.  Take it once just to see what it is like and what you need to study to do better.  Waiting until the last year, puts too much pressure on you.

Financial Aid--FAFSA

You cannot fill out the FAFSA form until after January 1st.  It will be for the2013-2014school year.  You can apply for a pin number at this time.  Go to www.pin.ed.gov for pin information and registration.  Go to www.fafsa.ed.gov for the application process.

OSU-Stillwater

Admission applications can be submitted at any time, but must be no later than scholarship deadline.

February 1, 2013--Priority scholarship deadline for students planning to enter OSU in summer or fall of 2013.  All application materials, including transcripts, test scores and essay questions must be submited for FULL scholarship consideration.

July 1, 2013--Deadline to submit updated transcrips and test scores for FINAL scholarship consideration.
